Family Tree

Sorry it's been so long since I've blogged. I have been very busy with putting together this Family Tree. It has been very fun searching for ancestors and finding out our roots. We have had family serve in about every war America has had including the Civil War and War Of 1812. I'm only 1 or 2 names away from finding ancestors dating back to the late 1600's and proof of our line helping to found this country. Go to the My Links section on this blog and clickFamily Tree link to view the pedigree that I have made. You will need a password to view this so just e-mail me or leave a message in comments for this posting.

Another Hike

This is from our longest hike so far this year, about an hour and a half. It was ended by a sudden downpour which had us running clear across the park for cover. The temps are now warm enough to watch the turtles bask in the sun. Frogs were even out and croaking in the swampland. Can't wait for Rie to snatch up her first tadpole.

Friday Fun Links

It appears that I have gained a stock pile of unusual websites in my Favorites. I figure that I could sort them out and share them with you while I'm at it. So, here is a new weekly post I'd like to call Friday Fun Links. The first link I like because it has to deal with Leprechauns!
This second link is well,.......well....just click here.

The Crippler

Chris Leben is a young up and coming fighter in the world of mixed martial arts. He got his break into the higher ranks on The Ultimate Fighter. TUF is a reality show in which fighters advance only by winning fights against others on the show. The last man standing in two different weight classes are rewarded with a UFC contract. Leben did not win, but this blue collar underdog has gained the respect of fans and fighters alike. His popularity has already led him to whispers of a Title shot, Leben has publicly said he would currently turn his head at a Title bout. Leben would like to take the scenic route towards the Championship, he wants the next match to be his best until his fans are screaming for him to have a Title match. This Thursday on Spike TV, Leben will fight his next match against undefeated newcomer Luigi Fioravanti.

Deadliest Catch

This is the best show on cable you are not watching. Ok, yeah, it's a bunch of Alaskan crab fishermen on the brink of insanity. They sling 700 lbs. pots (crab trap's) around a ship that's struggling to stay afloat in the Bering Sea. There are 40 foot waves crashing down on top of you and 50 knot winds blowing in your face, all in freezing temperatures. So put on your immersion suit ya Greenhorn and catch the Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel on Tuesday nights.

Downtown

Sports On The Brain 2

Well, the Duke loss could have helped me out in my bracket I originally had LSU going to the Final Four but switched to Duke at the last minute. LSU's big guy was hurt to begin the tourney everyone made the mistake in saying they had Duke in the Finals. So I decided to take or leave the points with everyone else. I put 5 teams into the Elite 8 and I jumped towards the lead by adding 35 more points. 3 of my Final Four teams are still alive, UCONN, Nova and UCLA. If all 3 go I should be in the lead.(muh-hahaha)

The Indy Racing League starts this Sunday 3:30pm EST on ABC. Danica is back and she's looking for a win this year. It might be a little tough this time though, the Rahal-Letterman Team are racing different cars than everyone else and they are 3-5 mph slower than the leader. I think they are also adding weights under the driver seats to balace the entire field. This is because of the crying from the Andretti-Green team which won about everything last year. Is Michael a b@#*h or what? None the less, half of the IRL fans and people who don't even watch the sport will be cheering for the hottie Danica Patrick. Look for Danica on my links!

Chris Leben has been added to the fight card for Ultimate Fight Night, that's April 6th on Spike TV. He will be going up against a newcomer in UFC and looks to continue his win streak and build his popularity. If you don't know about Chris or the UFC now is the time to be watching. The sport is has been growing by the month for the past 2 years. Some of the best matches in the sport have been fought lately. In May, UFC will hold an event at the Staples Arena (that's were the Lakers play) Matt Hughes, the current Champion will be fighting Hall Of Famer Royce Gracie in his return to the Octagon. Ticket prices are$50 to $1000 at ringside, tickets are nearly gone and only the rest of the card has yet to be announced.

Sports On The Brain

Well, it looks like well have to wait a little longer for Favre's decision on retirement. Apparently he wants the Packer's to become more active in free agency. Which he is right by the way, Minnesota and Detroit are taking full advantage of this. Favre is due about $3 million in a roster bonus on April 1st ( Fools Day ). The Pack started out this season a cool $30 million under the cap. The few free agents we did sign were areas of need, DE Aaron Kampman re-signed. Kampman? you say, he only had the second most tackles by a defensive lineman in packers history, in only his fourth year. DT Ryan Pickett was signed away from St. Louis, again who? Last year Pickett led all defensive lineman in tackles ahead of Kampman. I'd still like another player on the line for depth. FB William Henderson re-signed and looks to finish his career in a Pack uniform. With the departure of former OSU linebacker Nail Diggs, whom I'm sorry to see go, opens the door for another Buckeye. Linebacker A.J. Hawk seems to be our pick in the draft, if not we might be in trouble. There web site says that there are more players working out in the clubhouse this year than any other before. Seems like all the changes that have been made are already starting to show. The baseball season is about to start. What the hell was the World Baseball Classic about anyway. The playoff system seemed to be the same as the one used in "Baseketball" "That was a great syke out". Thank the good Lord, Cuba didn't win, I don't know if the world needed "Viva la Castro" chants everywhere. My NCAA bracket is sitting pretty right now I've got 50 points and only 6 behind the 3 leaders. The leaders however all have at least 1 Final Four team gone, mine is still intact (Duke, UConn, Nova, and UCLA) in fact I only have 2 Elite 8 teams out right now (Kansas and UNC). After crushing the competition in the NFL pool this winter, a win here would give me the ultimate bragging rights at work.

Saint Patrick's Day

Friday is the day were everyone becomes a 'we bit Irish. What other day in the year can that happen, when the whole world claims to be one nationalality. Thank the good Lord that they choose our good side and not the.....ok, let's not talk about that side! Lets just say be happy there will be singing, not swearing and people will be dancing, not fist fighting! So Friday put on your green and eat your corned beef and cabbage. The Good Life

"Remember how easy life was when you were younger"

The Amazing Hippie

This is the woman who gave birth to Rie, after a pregnancy which had moments that were out of an episode of "Married With Children". They were both born on the same day at the exact same time, now how is that for a birthday present! This made 5 generations of women in this line ( Rie, Hippie, Vona G, Grandma Orr, and the always entertaining Grandma Spice). Hippie is the glue that holds our family together. Not only is she in school full time, she controls Rie when I'm at work, runs the house, cooks, and to top it off she has to deal with the stubburdness that is me. I have to also say we are all Leo's born within 2 days of each other, and not to mention the Irish temperament Rie and I share. With all of this in the mix we can have some battles in the house that rival the "shock and aww" campaign in Iraq. The best part of this, is the making up which eventually follows. Hippie will always put her family and friends ahead of herself, she has a positive attitude, she exceeds the definition of mother, I'm lucky enough to be a part of her life every day, and these are just a few of the reasons why I love her!

Friends Of Nature

This little guy here has been a visitor at our home since he first left the tree. 3 years ago on a Saturday in Spring, this squirrel came into the yard. It so happened we were having a garage sale. Doughnuts were on the menu for breakfast, and he kept trying to grab them off of the porch. After several failed attempts and the irresistible cuteness of a baby squirrel, Hippie and her friend tossed him a powdered doughnut and he gobbled it down. It was hilarious because he had the white powder all over his face, kinda like a beard and mustache. Last year we let Rie feed him a mix of seeds and nuts and he became a daily visitor. He has grown comfortable with us and by the end of summer he had almost made his way inside the house.
